How do you browse a Hull ID Variety?
The Hull Identification Selection (HIN) can be a twelve- or fourteen-character serial selection that uniquely identifies a ship. The HIN is analogous to some VIN on an auto.
The first 3 digits tend to be the Company’s Identification Code (ex. Boat brand including Sea Ray, Meridian, and many others.). The four digits following that tend to be the company’s serial selection with the boat. The third and 4th digits from the end would be the date of manufacture. The letter on the day of your manufacture corresponds into the thirty day period with the 12 months, i.e. A = January, B = February, C = March and so forth. The last two digits of your HIN selection stand for the design yr.
All boats manufactured or imported on or soon after November 1, 1972, must bear a HIN, which HIN have to be recognized for the duration of boat registration. Vessels produced or imported prior to 1972 are EXEMPT because they normally do not need a HIN.
The HIN is identified with a steel or plastic plate, usually over the transom on the boat, generally on the right starboard (appropriate) side with the transom inside of two inches of the best of transom, gunwale, hull id number or hull/deck joint, whichever is most affordable.
On vessels without transoms, or impractical to work with transoms, the HIN is generally affixed into the starboard (proper) outboard facet of hull, aft, inside just one foot from the stern and within just two inches of the top in the hull facet, gunwale or hull/deck joint, whichever is lowest.
